Our little school has gotten some amazing press this school year. In case you missed it, check out the KOMO 4 News report on our kindergarten’s CSI: Seabury project, the Q13 Fox report on the CSI: Seabury project, the News Tribune photo gallery featuring our CSI: Seabury project, the Superstars blog post about the whole crazy experience, and this (slightly shameless) Tacoma KOMO post about our prekindergartners’ charming Thanksgiving recipes.
You can always find a full list of media mentions of Seabury to the right of this page. Now go forth and spread the news!
Philanthropic ... Our fabulous Explorers class donated an art chair to the Northwest Furniture Bank's annual "Chair Affair" auction. This is a big deal, considering school groups are usually not considered to participate as artists. But we think their chair stands on its own! Update: Would you believe that Seabury's chair was the VERY FIRST chair sold at the auction? Within the first 20 minutes, somebody had pledged the guaranteed bid of $200 to win our chair. Fantastic!!!
Imaginative ...A group of fourth-graders recently competed in the Destination Imagination Washington State Tournament and won first place in the scientific category.
The team has earned a chance to compete with teams from more than 30 countries at the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn., at the end of May.
The program helps students learn creativity, teamwork and problem solving as they work on challenges in various categories and present their ideas at tournaments.
Tech-savvy ... Our middle school program is one-of-a-kind, not least because of the amazing technology and integrated arts program built by teacher Adam Brock. The things these students are working on are truly amazing - we can guarantee that no other middle schoolers anywhere are doing this type of advanced work. In fact, it's more commonly found in graduate school programs!
